What We Do
Cotswold BSAC was formed in 1969, one of the initial sub aqua branches established within the BSAC organisation.
This active, friendly branch currently has a diverse membership in excess of fifty members. We have members who are relatively new to the club and others who have been here over 20 years. Within the branch is a varied range of experience, some members have only just started to dive whilst others have progressed to BSAC Dive Leader and Advanced Diver level. Several have also gained Instructor qualifications. We welcome members from other organisations e.g. PADI, who can cross over to an equivalent level within BSAC.
You would be welcomed as a beginner or an experienced diver. Browse our club Training page to look at how you can start or continue training with Cotswold BSAC, at a level to suit you.
Cotswold BSAC meets every Friday between 8.00pm & 9.00pm at the Brockworth Sports
Centre (Mill Lane, Brockworth, Glos. GL3 4QF)
The pool is 20m long, having a shelving bottom to 3m with a diving area at a depth
of 3m. Members use the pool for training, swimming, testing equipment and to practice
diving skills. Families and partners are welcome to attend the pool on Club Nights
although we ask that children are supervised by a parent. There is also a small
cost to members and their guests for using the pool on Club Nights.
When the pool closes, Club Nights continue, for many members, at the pub:
The Bell Inn, Main Road, Shurdington, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire GL51 5XQ.
Since
practical training is squeezed into a short hour of pool availability, a great deal
of discussion and planning - for training, dives and social events - takes place
during this part of the evening!
You are welcome to come along to any of these sessions to discuss membership, diver training or just to chat about diving. However, it might be worthwhile contacting the Club first, to make sure someone will be available to chat with you.
Cotswold has an active and varied diving programme, including beach and harbour dives, dives from our very own RIB and charter boat dives. Locations include Devon and Dorset coasts, Scilly Isles, West Wales, Orkneys, Northumberland Coast, Farne Islands, together with overseas locations such as The Skelligs in Ireland, French Mediterranean and the Egyptian Red Sea.
The branch dives can be a single day, a weekend or sometimes a holiday involving a liveaboard charter boat. Some members choose to dive solely abroad while others dive throughout the year in UK waters. Cotswold is an active member of the Area Interbranch Group, this allows us to combine and share with other BSAC branches: training facilities, charter boats and dive holidays.
As well as diving, members organise a range of events throughout the year. Club members are encouraged to get together with their families at events like the Annual dinner, BBQs, Skittles, Quiz nights, etc.
Family members are welcome on any of these functions and indeed they often come on the dive trips for the social aspect.
The annual membership fees to Cotswold 332 and BSAC depend on your current diver grade and requirements for training. Fees are slightly higher for new divers because of the need for BSAC training materials. The Membership fees page (pdf) gives more detailed guidance. Please note, fees may change from time to time. Contact the club (see below) to confirm current rates.
Please contact the Club Chairman [email] if you are interested in joining Cotswold BSAC and we can arrange for you to drop in on a Club Night for a chat.
