NDAC Closes Permanently
In very sad news, NDAC, the National Diving and Activity Centre has announced that it is closing its doors permanently, following enforced closures because of government restrictions during covid-19.
“We are not taking bookings for leisure activities or public diving,” reads the announcement on their website released yesterday (18th February). “We’d like to thank all our customers for their support over the years.”
As anyone who has been to NDAC will recount, the site has been very popular with the Club for many years. Stories can be told from right at the start where you parked in the top car park and there were practically no facilities on site. Growing over the many years, above and below the water, the site blossomed into a playground for divers. With the additions of the changing rooms, cafe, bar, viewing platform amongst other upgrades, a trip to NDAC was always an enjoyable experience.
Of course, certain things never changed…and that was always the delights of the bus ride down! The delight or disaster of the trip, depending on your view point and experience, it certainly used to bring character to the journey down to the water.
I’m sure many divers, ex-divers and now social members will be able to recall many stories about this famous site. Whether that was diving at 50m, 35m, 20m or just bimbling along at 7-10m, there was always something to see and memories to be created.
It truely is a sad day for not just the Club, but the whole diving community as it was used by divers from far and wide.
Head on over to the Clubs facebook page » on this topic, and share your own stories.
Just a few memories over the years…..if you have any photos or memories you’d like to share, then just send them to me and I will add them.
