RYA2 Course Plymouth

A few members of Cotswold and ESAC drove down to Plymouth at the weekend to do the RYA2 Powerboat Course.

Spread over two days, with a mixture of theory and practical sessions, the course was an excellent introduction to powerboating. From learning how to manoeuvre the RIB, doing a figure of 8, coming alongside a pontoon and turning in a confined space, lots of exercises were performed. There was also drills on how to deal with a man overboard situation (with an aptly named buoy called Baxter) and tying onto a mooring (better get those rope knots up to scratch!), and deploying and recovering the anchor. The two days concluded with some high-speed manoeuvring.

Despite the very cold conditions (many, many layers helped), everyone on the course passed. The sun had even made an appearance on the second day after some snow on the first!

Thanks to Plymouth Powerboat School » for helping us get this, to Ian for organising the package, and to Jacqui for the photos.
