Isle of Wight
The weekend of 14th-15th October saw members of Cotswold BSAC 332 dive from the hardboat ‘Wight Spirit’ from Lymington marina. This was generally a new dive area for most members and we dived a mix of wrecks and drift dives around the western end of the Isle of Wight, and the Solent.
The first dive was on the wreck of the Fenna about 3 NM from the Needles where lots of life was seen on this interesting little wreck site. This was followed by a brisk drift dive in Christchurch Bay.
The second day saw almost perfect surface conditions for diving. The wreck of the Borgny and a drift in Alum Bay were the subject of the second days dives.
Overall we can recommend the setup in Lymington with skipper Dave Wendes who is very knowledgeable about his wrecks and a great skipper with comfortable boat. Another trip will be run here here next season should there be interest. The area offers a number of opportunities for Sports Divers and above, and is very quiet – Dave is the only dive skipper operating from Lymington and the sites are generally beyond the normal range of boats out of Poole or Swanage. The scenery around the New Forest is lovely with lots of places to visit.
Thanks to Neil and Ian for the photos.
