Brixham Shore Dive
Forget Christmas shopping, I’ll think you’ll find that’s what Amazon is for, and come diving with Cotswold on Sunday 11th December.
The location will be Brixham Breakwater Beach so suitable for absolutely everyone. For those that have not dived it before there is good access to the water directly from the car park and toilets and most important of all a cafe on site. Gas fills can be arranged but aren’t easy so I would recommend bringing all the gas that you need for the day with you. If anyone thinks they will need gas, please let me know and I will get in touch with Baz from Brixham Dive Shack to see if he can do anything for us.
The actual dive site is a gently shelving cove with Brixham Breakwater to your left as you head out and a selection of shallow gulleys to your right with sand and shingle giving way to sediment in the middle. Maximum depth will be dependent on how far you are prepared to swim but I get fed up and turn back at about 12-14m. Whilst it’s not spectacular diving there is plenty to see and sponge and anemone fans (that’ll be me) won’t be disappointed.
This site is heavily fished so please bring at least one line cutter with you – this can be knife, tough cuts whatever, but for this site it is an essential piece of kit. Also a torch is quite a good idea if you have one. DSMB/SMB’s generally not necessary at this site providing you’re not going a long way or straying away from the breakwater.
This will make a great break from the pre-Xmas stress so do come along if you can make it. The day will be very informal but I would like some idea of numbers as it will help assigning buddies so please let me know if you are interested.
Start time will be 9-9:30 in the Beach Car Park and high tide is early afternoon so the first dive will be a bit of a walk to the water but no ankle breaking rocks here just flat sand and shingle.
For those with Sat Navs the post code is TQ5 9AF – travel time from Gloucester is around 2hrs 15 minutes
No santa hats or Xmas jumpers you will be sent straight home.
