RYA2 Powerboat Course

RYA2 POWERBOAT COURSE – Cheltenham/Plymouth – Feb 2017

Due to several expressions of interest in a powerboat course, Ian has contacted several RYA training companies with a view to getting a package together that works for us from both a time and cost perspective. For efficiency this course will be run in conjunction with our friends at Evesham Sub Aqua Club who also have interested members.

We needed to take into consideration things like people not wanting to commit to a whole weekend, location of the course to ensure that coastal elements are covered and the increased cost of the RYA2 course when run at weekends, to name but a few!!!

Following several phone calls that left us feeling like a cross between a pongo general and Del boy, Ian has come up with a very attractive package. This is what we have.

1. An RYA instructor will deliver all of the RYA2 power boat theory at the Churchdown Club on Saturday 11th of Feb 2017.

This will likely start around 9am and run till 5pm, that does allow time for lunch. Needless to say, if less breaks are taken and the theory is picked up relatively quickly then we will finish earlier.

2. At dates in Feb agreed beforehand, trainees will then need to tavel to Plymouth to complete the practical elements of the course. This must be completed in groups of 3 due to instructor/student ratio requirements and will be one full day in each instance.

3. Successful completion of both of these elements will result in an RYA2 powerboat certification.

If you were to book this course individually and over a weekend, this would likely cost you between £250 and £295!!

Ian has managed to knock the cost down a tad and on the basis of us having at least 6 people who want to complete this course, we will be charged £175 per person. We welcome you all to have a look around to compare the price, please remember that you need to look at the coastal certification and not inland.

For the £175, you will get the theory and practical sessions as well as lunch and refreshments on the theory day. You will need to arrange your own transport to Plymouth but it should be possible to coordinate transport between you.

If you’re interested in taking part in this then could you please contact Ian.

(Baxter will co-ordinate the Evesham members)

Please note that it’s at least 6 people we need and not a limit of 6 people, we can have more people on the course so if you’re interested then stop yacking and get emailing!

A deposit of £80 will be required to secure your place and the balance by Friday the 3rd of Feb, Ian is obviously happy for you to pay the balance before this date.

NOTE – The RYA2 Power boat course can be complete from the age of 12 but those under 16 will be issued with an endorsed certificate if successful. I suspect that this will mean you need to be supervised on your club RIB for insurance purposes but this will need to be confirmed by your respective diving officer if relevant.
