SEASEARCH OBSERVER COURSE 28th/29th OCTOBER PORTLAND

Hi everyone some club members have already signed up for this course but there are still places available if anyone else is interested.

The course will be in two parts and will be based at the Aqua Hotel in Castletown Portland – a classroom day on Saturday 28th (cost £45) and a diving day on Sunday 29th using a rib from Dive Beyond (also based at Aqua Hotel) cost £34 for two dives.

A lot of you will have heard of Seasearch for those that haven’t it’s a project run by the Marine Conservation Society for volunteer divers who have an interest in finding out more about what they see underwater with the ultimate aim of helping protect the environment by recording and monitoring what’s there. The data collected by Seasearch volunteers is collated and submitted annually to, among others, Natural England so it is used and is not just left in a dusty corner.

The first step into Seasearch is the Observer Course this is a one day classroom based tutor lead course aimed at introducing divers to marine recording followed by tutor lead dives. At the end of the course you will be able to identify and record habitats and marine species and complete the Seasearch Observer Form.

This all sounds a bit dull but it isn’t, it’s a new challenge and does provide an extra element to your diving.

There are no pre-requisites for attending the course and it is open to all diver grades..
